My role
I was the lead designer on the project. I was tasked with ideation and architecting how we would add bundles and collections to the app.
We wanted to increase sales while providing a better shopping experience.
The current Inventory feature lacks tools for creating bundles and collections, limiting user's ability to increase average ticket amounts and leverage cross-selling opportunities. Revamping the feature with intuitive tools for managing bundles and collections will help users optimize inventory, drive higher sales, and enhance customer satisfaction.
Goals
Research
The research phase involved conducting user interviews by the product team, who then provided summarized feedback and key insights to the design team.
Additionally, competitor analysis was performed to understand how other companies implemented product collections in their platforms.
Pain Points
The existing system lacked the flexibility to add custom fields and variants to product definitions, hindering retailers' ability to provide detailed product information.
Retailers lacked tools to create product bundles, limiting their ability to increase sales and move slow-moving inventory.
Retailers lacked the ability to create curated collections, which is a standard feature in competing ecommerce platforms.
Needs
The ability to add custom fields and variants to product definitions.
Tools to create and manage product bundles.
Functionality to create and manage product collections.
Alexa Rivera
Retailer
“I struggle to create attractive product bundles that my customers actually want.
Without an easy way to manage collections, I feel like I’m leaving money on the table.
My competitors offer curated sets, and I can’t keep up with them, which hurts my sales.”
Jamie Chen
Retailer
“Our customers often ask for product recommendations or bundles, but there wasn’t a way to within the system to do this.
Without a streamlined system for collections, it’s hard to scale our efforts and increase our average order value.”
Morgan Patel
Retailer
“I need to group products into seasonal collections or themed bundles, but the current inventory tools are too rigid.
It’s frustrating to miss opportunities to upsell or create unique offerings that could make my store stand out.”
Process
Wayroo wanted to position our functionality between basic and complex, striking a balance that would serve our users best.
I began by deciding where to place bundles and collections. Adding them to the already large navigation would create too many choices.
I conducted competitive analysis of Shopify and Square to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses.

After user interviews it was clear that it made more sense to add them to inventory feature, creating a bundle is essentially adding another inventory item. Collections serve as curated lists of inventory items.

While My Inventory, Bundles, and Collections needed a cohesive navigation design, I approached the detailed design of each feature separately.
I white boarded several options for integrating these features into the inventory page. Tabs emerged as the best solution, providing clear navigation between the three inventory management options.
After white boarding, I created quick prototypes to test navigation between sections.
Next, I developed the bundle creation flow. The key requirements were adding products, naming the bundle, and generating a bundle SKU on creation. I implemented this using a list and detail pattern—users would see their created bundles in a list view with an option to create new ones.
Collections were designed first

Bundles would directly follow

The components and patterns were similar which helped with interface consistency and speed up development.
The next step was redesigning the My Inventory section.
The incumbent system suffered from usability issues — specifically its inline editing system and lack of a proper save mechanism when users moved between products.

Converting the Edit Product interface to a bottom sheet allowed users to clearly see when they had edited and saved changes before moving on to other products. Users were also terrified of the Reset All button, thinking it might reset their entire inventory, not knowing it was a mislabeled discard changes button.

All together, these changes represented a complete redesign of the Inventory feature—one of Wayroo's key strengths.
This case study focused on the iOS mobile version but Android and Web were updated as well.
